ALBION HOUSE FIRE: A break in the smoke reveals the engulfed Quimby family farm home in Albion Tuesday evening as fire crews work different sides of the house to contain the flames.

ALBION — A fire Tuesday night destroyed the house and attached barn of an active dairy farm on Unity Road, less than a mile from the town fire station, in a conflagration with flames 25 feet high and plumes of smoke that could be seen from miles away.

Amanda Dow, Albion’s Town Clerk, one of many residents on the scene, said the farm was owned by the Quimby family and that everybody in the family escaped unharmed.

“They are all out,” she said, “but all they got out with were the clothes on their backs.”

The fire started at about 5 p.m. and was still burning furiously more than an hour later. Several fire departments from surrounding towns provided help to Albion firefighters.
